African flower, tape measure |
You need:
♥ Thin cotton yarn in 1-4 different colors. I've used DMC, Natura Just Cotton
♥ 2 mm or 2,2 mm crochet hook, depending on how tight you crochet and which yarn you're using. My crocheting is quite tight and I've used a 2,2 mm hook
♥ A round tape measure, approx.5 cm (2 inches) in diameter. Mine is 5,2 cm
♥ Scissors
♥ Needle
US crochet terms.

Work a magic circle
- Color 1. Around the circle: Ch2, 1 dc, *ch1, dc 2 together*, repeat from*-* 4 more times, ch1, finish with 1 ss in 1st dc. Cut yarn, weave in ends
- Color 2. Attach yarn in any ch1-sp, on rnd 1.
Ch3 = 1 dc, ch1, 2 dc around the same ch1-sp as the ch3, *[2 dc, ch1, 2 dc] in next ch1-sp*, repeat from *-* 4 more times, finish with 1 dc around the 1st ch1-sp, finish with 1 ss in 3rd ch. - 1 ss around the 1st ch1-sp, ch3 = 1 dc, 6 dc around the same ch1-sp as the ch3, [7 dc around next ch-sp]x5, finish with a ss in 3rd ch = 6 petals. Cut yarn, weave in ends.
- Color 3. Attach yarn with a sc in any 1st dc in a petal, on rnd 3.
1 sc in the next 6 dc, 1 dc in between the last dc in a ch-sp and the first dc in the next ch-sp on rnd 2, *1 sc in the next 7 dc, 1 dc in between the last dc in a ch-sp and the first dc in the next ch-sp on rnd 2*, repeat from *-* 4 more times, finish with 1 ss in 1st sc. Cut yarn, weave in ends. Make sure the flower fits on top of your tape measure.Note: Insert the hook between the last dc in a ch-sp
and the first dc in the next ch-sp on rnd 2, not rnd 3. - Color 4. Attatch yarn in any 1st sc after a dc, on rnd 4.
Ch4 = 1 tr, 1 dc in each st around except in the last dc. = 47 tr Cut yarn but leave a long tail for sewing the two flowers togetherThe little gap between the first and the last dc
is where you pull out the tape measure.
Do not crochet rnd 5, on the second one.
Start sewing the two flowers together. Make sure the petals line up together. Once you have sewed 4 of the petals together, insert the tape measure, and sew it together all around.
Weave in ends, and its ready for use.

About how long does it take to crochet this tape measure cover?
SvarSlettThanks, Darlene
I'm guessing about one hour 😊
SlettIt took me about two hours in total to crochet this beautiful little tape measure cover. It was a lot of fun. I truly enjoyed and it won't be the last one.
SvarSlettThanks a lot for this pattern.
I think there is a small typo in round 5.
I guess it should say: 1 tr in each st around except in the last dc
At least, that's what I did and it worked out fine.
