Springtime Magic Granny

Springtime Magic Granny Square
(Go to Norwegian pattern / gå til norsk oppskrift)
August 15th is the Granny Square day. Susan, IG-profile @suregal27, created this event in 2014, and the idea was that people from all over the world would post a close up, full framed photo of a granny square, tag it with #grannysquareday2018 (this years tag) At the end of the day, you could click on the tag, find thousands of beautiful granny squares and create your own virtual granny square blanket.

This year I decided to make my Springtime Magic Mandala into a square, to celebrate Granny Square Day, and I would like to share my pattern with you.

Note I,ve done a couple of small adjustment; I decided to use dc instead of hdc on round 5.
(The pink and turquoise are made with hdc, the purple and grey one is made with dc)

Springtime Magic Granny

You need:
 Yarn of your choice. I've used Scheepjes Catona
♥ Hook to match your yarn. I've used a 3mm hook
 Scissors
 Needle

Abbreviations, US terms
rnd = round
ss = slip stitch
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
ch-sp = chain space
dc2tog = double crochet 2 together

[example]x3 = Work the instructions inside the [-] as many times as the number after the x.

Imortant information
The pattern is written without color changes, but you can change color as you like.
If a round starts  with a dc, the first dc is replaced by ch3 or a Faux double crochet.
Finish with 1 ss in 3rd ch, if you replaced the 1st dc with ch3

Work a magic ring (or ch4, ss in 1st ch)
  1. Ch2, 1 dc in the ring = 1 dc2tog *ch1, dc2tog in the ring*, repeat from*-* four more times, finish with a sc in 1st dc = 1 ch1-sp.
    (6 dc2tog)
  2. 2 dc in the last ch1-sp (sc), [(2 dc, ch1, 2 dc) in next ch-sp]X5, finish with 2 dc in the last ch1-sp (sc), 1 sc in 1st dc (the last sc = 1 ch1-sp).
    (24 dc + 6 ch)
  3. 4 dc in the last ch1-sp 2, [7 dc in next ch-sp]x5, 3 dc in the last ch1-sp, finish with a ss in 1st dc.
    (6 petals)
  4. Ch1 = 1 sc, ch3, 1 dc in between the last dc in a ch-sp and the first dc in the next ch-sp on rnd 2, ch3, *1 sc i the 4th dc in next petal, ch3, 1 dc in between the last dc in a ch-sp and the first dc in the next ch-sp on rnd 2, ch3* repeat from *-* 4 more times, finish with 1 ss in 1st ch.
    (12 ch3-sp)
  5. 1 dc in 1st sc, 3 dc in next ch3-sp, 2 dc in next dc, 3 dc in next ch3-sp, *1 dc in next sc, 3 dc in next ch3-sp, 2 dc in next dc, 3 dc in next ch-sp*, repeat from *-* around, finish with 1 ss in 1st dc (3rd ch).

  1. Would you consider making a crochet diagram for it? They're so much easier to follow than convoluted, heavily abbreviated written instructions.

    1. If I had a nickel for every pattern I rewrote to be a little more easy for me to understand I'd be rich. hopefully you can pull it off yourself I usually go the opposite way I turn charts and diagrams into written patterns so you're working in reverse Good luck out there

  5. A very beautiful pattern! However, it would be more helpful if it was stated when colours are changed and if had picture diagram to go along with, this would make it a lot easier to follow, other than that very beautiful

    Great hobby and extra income, I prefer to knit on weekends, or sometimes I play online games like casinos or slot machines

    1. In addition to a career, family, communication with family and friends, a person must have a hobby. Previously, these were real activities, but with the development of the Internet and the advent of gadgets, everyone can choose their own entertainment on the network. Lately I've been playing slots like https://syndicate.casino/blog/indian-dreaming-pokie
